Johann Friedrich Fasch (April 15, 1688 – December 5, 1758) was a German composer.
He was natural within Buttelstädt, was a choirboy around Weissenfels and studied under Johann Kuhnau at the Thomasschule within Leipzig (he later founded the Collegium Musicum in the city). He so travelled throughout Germany, becoming the fiddler inside the orchestra in Bayreuth in 1714, and too holding court posts inside Greiz and Lukavec. Around 1722 he was appointed Kapellmeister at Zerbst, a post he held until his demise.
His works include cantatas, concertos, symphonies and chamber music. None of his pieces were printed within his lifespan, & the prominent total of his vocal works, including tetrad operas, have been wasted. Still, he was held within high regard by his coeval (Johann Sebastian Bach made manuscript copies of a total of his pieces), & he is in todays world considered an crucial hyperlink between a Baroque and Classical periods.
Johann Friedrich Fasch was a father of Carl Friedrich Christian Fasch, also the musician.
